Welcome to the Bengali under Humanities Department is perhaps the only subject which has a very rich past among the minor subjects of the college. The prominence of this subject comes into forefront because of the activities of our students under the banner of Bengali literary society. In that sense we have perhaps the only subject of this college where the division of arts and science or commerce makes no difference. We are the subject concerned with many students though we are ourselves a minor.
The Bengali subject, Midnapore City College, was established in August, 2017. This subject is highly acclaimed as a distinguished subject of the teaching and research, the reputation being enhanced by the fact that since its inception. The subject has been fulfilled by experienced teachers. They have enriched our subject. The subject has been a window for young learners to the highly rich and varied world of Bengali literature. Several eminent teachers have honoured the subject with their committed services down the years. Classes are taken in UG section by reputed teachers from various institutions who are authorities in their own field. Equipped with adequate infrastructure to run UG streams, the Bengali subject has been carrying on its noble task with responsibility.
English being the universal language has a lot of significance in present scenario. This characteristic nature of the language has set forth a goal to pursue it as it has a global perspective. If enquired why we should study English literature, the answer is implied in Tolstoy’s two basic questions: “Who are we and how shall we live?” English being a powerful language recounts the human predicament quite potentially through ages.
The English subject in Midnapore City College has come into existence from the very introduction of this college in the year 2017. The department offers both UG and PG courses. In a well-connected city like Midnapore the need of studying English in both UG (Hons.) and PG courses had been immense for a long time. A large number of students who wants to pursue their career in studying English literature have become beneficial to a great extent. The rush for admission in both UG and PG courses is actually overwhelming.
From its strong foundation in a traditional approach to the subject, the Department is now keenly exploring newer areas, especially those that articulate its location. A strong thrust of the Department is in interdisciplinary studies of the literature and culture of the region, especially of the literature and culture that have emerged in a unique colonial experience and against the backdrop of recent political and social events. The Department's goal is to develop good teachers and scholars who are also responsible citizens and good human beings.
It provides students who join its various programmes with an environment that is intellectually stimulating and challenging and seeks to teach them not only the discipline in all its dimensions but also valuable life lessons. It fosters diversity, openness and a spirit of courageous inquiry and maintains an easy camaraderie among its faculty and students that is especially useful in the implementation of its programmes. While it maintains an atmosphere that is friendly and helpful the Department prides itself in adherence to schedules, insists on serious and sustained study. Its faculty has a reputation for working as a team and many of its activities, like seminars, workshops, curricular revisions and the declaration of examination results in record time are successful primarily because of this capacity to work together. Students join this Department from all the states of the region, giving it a cultural and ethnic diversity that has always contributed to its cosmopolitan outlook in all college matters as well as in the pursuit of the discipline.
Welcome to the Sanskrit under Humanities Department at the Midnapore City College. Sanskrit is a repository of unlimited invaluable knowledge of Ancient Indian Heritage. There is an urgent need for knowledge mining from Ancient Sanskrit texts for bridge building between the past and the future through the present. Keeping this in view, a unique research oriented Department of Sanskrit Studies was established in 2017 which will act as an interface between Sanskrit and the sub-fields of the Humanities.
The Department acts as a platform for a new generation of scholars in Sanskrit and Science to emerge as a world class interdisciplinary teaching and research oriented department.
Sanskrit subject is to build bridges between the Ancient Indian knowledge systems and the current knowledge systems and also for explore Ancient Sciences and Technologies with a modern perspective to build alternate viable systems for the future.
Sanskrit subject is to train traditional scholars in order to undertake research in application oriented knowledge mining and to collect, preserve, and maintain the manuscripts dealing with Ancient Indian Sciences and Technology.
Welcome to the History under the Humanities Department at the Midnapore City College. The Subject's strong commitment to Undergraduate &Post Graduate education can be seen in the prominence of the history, one of the largest in campus.The numerous teaching awards are earned by both standing faculty and graduate students.The strong presence of History is felt in general education. The faculty of History direct and participate in many interdisciplinary centers. History offers courses leading to B.A. Degree & M.A. Degree. Its teaching programme is designed to provide students with a broad overview of world history narrowing down to focus on the history of India with special emphasis on socio-economic and cultural history. Undergraduate history leads to learn about the variety of human experience over time and, along the way, acquire analytical and writing skills that prepare them for success in many different areas of work and study. History graduate students become immersed in the latest scholarship and develop research projects that contribute in significant ways to an understanding of the past. They play a vital role in the department’s teaching mission as well.
